Ederson to Man Utd is ‘Done’—So Why Can’t They Announce It? Romano Reveals All.

The proposed transfer of Atalanta midfielder Ederson to Manchester United has hit an unexpected bureaucratic roadblock. Despite personal terms being agreed for weeks and the player himself waiting in the wings, the deal is currently being delayed by a "technical" overhaul behind the scenes in Bergamo.

Ederson to Man Utd is ‘Done’—So Why Can’t They Announce It? Romano Reveals All.

Just when Manchester United fans thought they were on the verge of securing their first major signing of the summer, the rumour mill has suddenly gone quiet. But according to the world’s leading transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, there is no need to hit the panic button just yet.

While the silence regarding the Brazilian’s move to Old Trafford has been deafening over the last few days, Romano has lifted the lid on exactly why the £38 million transfer hasn't crossed the finish line.

Why Has the Transfer Stalled?

According to Romano, the delay has nothing to do with the player’s desire to join the Red Devils nor a breakdown in financial negotiations. Instead, it is down to pure logistics and a "crazy" period of transition at Atalanta.

The Serie A giants have just undergone a complete overhaul of their football operations. With Maurizio Sarri arriving as the new manager and Cristiano Giuntoli stepping in as the new sporting director, the paperwork has been piling up on the wrong desks .

"What's happening is very technical now," Romano explained on his YouTube channel. "Atalanta have announced Cristiano Giuntoli will be their new sporting director, and Sarri will be the new manager. Those are going to be the people in charge of closing the deal with Man Utd" .

Because the executives who originally negotiated the deal are no longer the ones holding the pen, the final signatures are stuck in a holding pattern. It is a waiting game for the new management team to formally take their seats before they can rubber-stamp Ederson’s departure.

‘Unless Something Crazy Happens’

While the delay is frustrating for a fanbase eager to see Michael Carrick’s squad reinforced, Romano’s update was overwhelmingly positive regarding the eventual outcome.

United have already reached a very advanced stage of the deal. The player has said "yes" to the move, a five-year contract is ready, and the club is finalizing a fee structure worth between €40 million and €45 million .

Despite the current silence, Romano insists the deal is simply paused, not dead.

“United hope to close the deal at around €40-45m. They are working on these final touches," Romano added. "Ederson will be a Man Utd player unless something crazy happens” .

The Casemiro Succession Plan

The interest in the 26-year-old Brazilian is no secret. With Casemiro expected to depart Old Trafford this summer, INEOS and the United recruitment team have identified Ederson as the ideal successor to bring energy and physicality to the engine room.

This is viewed as a "low-risk" acquisition. Ederson has consistently impressed in Serie A, and with only 12 months left on his contract in Bergamo, the fee represents relatively good value in an inflated market .

Legendary United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel recently endorsed the move, praising the player's unique balance of power and technique. "He can win duels, carry the ball forward, press aggressively and still stay calm under pressure," Schmeichel told Sky Sports. "That combination is very difficult to find"

What Happens Now?

For now, Manchester United fans will have to practice patience. The ball is technically in Atalanta’s court as they finalize their Sarri-era setup. However, the sentiment from Italy is clear: unless a rival club swoops in during this brief window of administrative chaos, Ederson will be wearing red next season.

The "crazy" scenario Romano warns about seems highly unlikely, but in the world of football transfers, as this week has proven, nothing is official until the ink is dry.
